She's The Only Thing Better Than Being
There
An aspiring starlet fines only failure on the acting scene and then
finds she has a special talent for phone sex in this Spike
Lee drama. Enigmatic Girl 6 is first scene auditioning for a cattle-call
audition in which a director asks her to bear her breasts because
nudity is part of the role. She does so but then becomes angry with
herself and leaves. Her agent dumps her and to make matters worse
her acting coach also dumps the disillusioned girl. In desperate
need of cash, she becomes Girl 6 at the posh phone sex company and
finds a true calling for her acting skills. Not only does she become
a popular phone girl there, she finds herself really enjoying her
work even though some of her clients (they are filmed with a more
grainy high definition film) are strange fellows indeed. She crosses
the line and allows herself to develop feelings for one client.
She decides to meet him, but he never shows up. Another client becomes
obsessed with her and starts stalking her. At home, she deals with
the unwanted attentions of her sleazy kleptomaniac ex-husband who
is trying to get her back. She also receives unwanted advice from
her neighbor and pal Jimmy, an eccentric baseball card collector.
