MORIARTY Unmasks Tarantino's Onscreen Role In KILL BILL!!
Contributed by
Mark - 07:32 4/08/2002
About a month and a half ago, I had occasion to run into Quentin Tarantino at a screening. I don't see him on any sort of regular basis, nor do I think of Quentin as a confidante. I've always enjoyed meeting him at the QT Fests in Austin, and on one occasion, he was cool enough to invite Harry and I to his house. And I like the guy a lot. He's more mellow than you'd expect, and talking to him is like falling into a conversation with any serious film geek. But I would never call him up. I just don't know him well enough for that.

Tarantino also said that he had thought of a project featuring the two brothers, sort of a 'prequel' to the two films (it would have to be). Tarantino Helps Kick Off Film Event
Contributed by
Mark - 11:50 3/12/2001
AUSTIN -- "Carrie" star Sissy Spacek and "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino are among the big names helping the Austin Film Society kick off its first hall of fame event. As part of the annual South by Southwest film and music festival, which runs through March 18, the society will induct five people into its first class Friday night. Spacek, screenwriter Bill Wittliff, actor Rip Torn, columnist Liz Smith and agent Mike Simpson are the inductees. Presenters include Tarantino, director Robert Benton, screenwriter Anne Rapp and former Texas Gov. Ann Richards. Society director Rebecca Campbell said support from so many VIPs proves the Austin film community is strong. The group has been working feverishly to pull together the last-minute event. Volunteers will transform new film studios at the old Robert Mueller Municipal Airport into a Texas-size party, Campbell said. "We think it's going to be beautiful, magical and legendary", she said, adding that the group wants to make hall of fame induction an annual event. The 1,200-member Austin Film Society was organized in 1986 to promote appreciation of film and to support filmmakers.

Five Questions With Dick Dale
Contributed by
Mark - 11:48 3/12/2001
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- In the opening scene of "Pulp Fiction", Amanda Plummer and Tim Roth jump up from their table in a Los Angeles coffee shop, whip out their pistols and kick off a brazen early morning holdup. What follows is a surge of power. Not gun power. Guitar power. It's Dick Dale ripping out the opening riffs of "Misirlou", a ferocious, nails-scraping-the-slate fusion of frenzied flamenco and Motor City metal that jump-starts Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film.
